About
Real strategy memos, read against what happened
strategymemos.com collects documents in which a company chose a direction, annotates the passages that matter, and sets them against the dated record of what followed.
What counts as a strategy memo
A document that makes a concrete choice for one organisation: where or how to compete, what to build, buy or stop, where money and people go, and why. Internal memos, shareholder letters and public letters all qualify when that choice is at their centre. Essays about the future, culture decks and mission statements do not.
Fact and Editorial
Every note says what it is. A Fact note is sourced, with a dated citation, and says whether it uses only what was known when the memo was written or later hindsight. When a memo states a figure we cannot check, the note says the memo claims it. An Editorialnote is our judgment, and the scorecard’s verdicts and the takeaways are editorial too.
A timeline shows what followed a memo. It does not claim the memo caused it, and a verdict on one call is not a verdict on the whole memo.
Sources and how we use the texts
Each memo page links to the full original where it is published. We show short excerpts with commentary unless the rights to show the full text are cleared. Some memos were internal documents that became public through the press, a court or Congress; that makes them public, not free to republish. Where we keep a private archive copy, the page gives its checksum and retrieval date; we do not distribute those copies.
Company logos identify the company a memo came from. Their use does not mean any company or person endorses this site.
Corrections and takedowns
Each memo page shows when it was last reviewed. If a fact is wrong, a source has moved or you hold rights in a text shown here, we correct or remove it.
Who publishes it
strategymemos.com is made by Socratify, an AI coach for interview practice. Each memo page links to Socratify practice for the strategy skills it shows. Nothing you do here is sent anywhere.
